TrainingTraining for each age group, regardless of the number of teams, is to be conducted on the same ground at the same time. Where there are multiple teams in an age group it is expected that training in teams would constitute no more than 25% of the total training time excluding training scrimmage matches. Ideally the players would rotate through drills with different coaches to maximise their exposure to different training methods.

This will ensure that in the players’ minds they are an age group in a club first and a member of a team second.
Multiple Teams Equal NumbersWhere multiple teams exist within an age group it is important that the numbers in each team on match day are equal. This will ensure that playing time is maximised for players.
Multiple Junior TeamsWhere multiple teams exist within an age group in Junior Age Groups (U/12 and below) the teams are to be of an equal standard and spread across schools. The players must be shared in the teams to achieve this whilst incorporating the players (to play with friends) and parents (to allow ease of transport) preferences where ever possible. Uneven teams will result in a loss of players and parent disenchantment at the junior level. Movement between teams would be on a needs basis to maintain equal numbers.
Multiple Youth TeamsWhere multiple teams exist within an age group in Youth Age Groups (U/13 and above) the teams will be split into ‘A’ and ‘B’ sides. This split is on a match by match basis with current STJFL requirements having 10 ‘A’ side players that can not play in the ‘B’ side. It is likely that there will be two divisions (depending on team ability and numbers) in youth age groups with the ‘A’ side playing in division 1 and the ‘B’ side in division 2. This occurred in the U16s in 2015 and is likely to be the same in 2016.
Recruiting PlayersIt is not the coach or mangers responsibility to actively recruit players. In underage football the STJFL preference is for players to play with teams from clubs in their local area. If registration numbers dictate that more players would be desirable then the Football Director will coordinate this with the coaching staff.

Where registration numbers exceed the 1 team maximum but do not reach the 2 team minimum preference for team membership will be given to the longest serving players of the club.
Director of CoachingAll coaching activities are overseen by the Football Director. Coaches should seek out advice on all coaching matters form the director. Coaches should include Football Director/President in correspondence to parents re selection/coaching. We recommend a parent meeting be held at the start of the year to clearly address expectations including all team and league rules
Coaching AccreditationThe SBLJFC has mandated that all coaches must hold a current accreditation (or undertaking a coaching course) to coach. Currently accreditation is valid for a 4 year period before a refresher course is required. The SBLJFC will pay for all coaching accreditation costs. Be accredited or obtain accreditation to work with vulnerable people.
