President's Letter - End of Season Update

End of Season Update

By now some teams have already finished, and others only have few games left to go, so I thought it was appropriate to confirm arrangements for the end of the season and to look at next year.

Season 2015 has been another successful year for the Lions, with over 350 players, including Auskick , registering with the Club, and this year we are hopeful that the U12,U13, U14 and possibly U16 will be competing in the finals, whilst the U18’s still have two games remaining and have an outside chance of making the top four.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Damien Geason, Matthew Johnson and Ben Jones for co-ordinating Auskick, with around fifty participants this year, things look good for the U8’s next year.

Good luck to all the teams who are participating in the finals, it is great for the boys to experience finals football, irrespective of the outcome.

Over 80 people attended our recent function at our sponsor’s bar at Wrest Point. I would like to thank Ben Jones for organising this event, and a big thank you to one of our sponsors, Wursthaus, who donated three vouchers as prizes on the night, which were very well received.

Code of Conduct

As we head towards finals we have been reminded by the STJFL as to the appropriate code of conduct. Recently a club was substantially fined for inappropriate conduct. The code of conduct is as follows:
No one should be directing any inappropriate conduct, comments or suggestions towards opposing players/umpires/officials/spectators
All team officials need to have appropriate identification
All team officials need to be correctly recorded on team lists
Only approved persons are permitted to go on to the ground during the course of play
Only team officials at coaches bench

I can confidently say that Sandy Bay has been adhering to the above code of conduct, and I thank everyone for their adherence to this code.

End of Season Presentations

You have probably been made aware by your managers, presentations are to be held on the following nights:

Junior Presentations - to be held at Queenborough
U8, U10 & U11 - 21 August 2015
U9 & U12 - 28 August 2015

Youth Age – to be held at the Prince of Wales Hotel
U13 - 21 September 2015
U14 - 22 September 2015
U16 - 23 September 2015
U18 - 24 September 2015

Your managers will be in touch in relation to the time and procedures for these events.

In preparation for the events Bill Trethewie has been organising trophies and Justin Young had the unenviable task of coordinating team photographs.

Thank you to both Bill and Justin

Club of the Year

You may have recently noticed in the Mercury, Claremont Junior Football Club won the STJFL Club of the Year. We submitted for this award, which involved a video being prepared about our club. We will send you a link to view the video, which was very professionally prepared by Sarah Gillman.

Return of Gear

Drew Moore is our Property Steward and responsible for coordinating return of all football gear at the end of the year.

To assist Drew, it is important that all jumpers are collected at the last match, cleaned and then all the gear is returned to Drew in the same form it was provided.

Thank you all for your assistance in making Drew’s job easier.

Next Year

I will be standing down as President at the end of the year and I am not certain how many of the current committee will remain. Therefore, I ask that anyone interested contact me in relation to either being President or on the committee. Our AGM will be held in November and it would be great to have some new participants to continue the outstanding work that has been undertaken by our committee this year.

Bill Trethewie is Director of Football, and does a great job. To help Bill do a better job, we would really appreciate an assistant, who would focus on the junior teams.

Queenborough Oval Master Plan

We submitted comments on the Queenborough master plan, with our main thrust being the upgrade of the change rooms, drainage and lights for the oval and improvements of amenities in particular the canteen and toilets.

The Council advises that they have taken our comments on board and will respond with a plan.

On a positive note, I can advise that the Hobart City Council will be erecting a net at the Sandy Bay Road end of the ground in September, which will be a huge benefit for us next year. Also we recently received a planning permit for a sign on Nelson Road, advertising our Club.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors and ask that you support them.

Thank you all for your support during the year, if you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.

All the best.
